Alex E. Blazer serves as the Literature Coordinator for the Department of English & Rhetoric; primary duties include scheduling literature faculty and leading curriculum development. He is also the founder and editor of The DoER: The Department of English & Rhetoric Newsletter. His past departmental service includes Early American and Fiction Writing search committees; he was also the Teaching Fellows Coordinator whose duties included supervision and professional development of the department's graduate teaching assistants.


He is a member of the Department of English & Rhetoric Tenure & Promotion Committee. As an elected University Senator, he is Presiding Officer Elect of the University Senate and serves as Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee of University Senate, the shared governance committee concerned with operational matters of the University Senate, and also serves on the Subcommittee on Nominations. He is a member of Honors Faculty Council, which advises the Honors Program. His past college and university service includes the College of Arts & Sciences Curriculum & Instruction Committee, the Convocation Book Committee, the University Senate Academic Policy Committee, the University Senate Curriculum and Assessment Policy Committee, the University Senate Faculty Affairs Policy Committee, the University Curriculum Committee, the Tenure & Promotion Task Force, and the Parking & Transportation Advisory Committee.


He also serves student organizations as the advisor of the Anime Club, the student organization devoted to discussing and watching anime.
