Submitting Assignments Accessing Graded Assigments Reviewing Comments in Word

1. Submitting Assignments

Informal Responses Discussion Boards Peer Response

a. Informal Responses

Upload informal responses to an appropriately titled assignment link on the course home page. For instance, if you need to turn in Informal Writing 1, you would follow these steps (note that this is a generic GeorgiaVIEW module and will not look exactly like your real assignment):

  1. Login to GeorgiaVIEW.
  2. Click the link for our course.
  3. Click the Assignments link on the Course Menu.
  4. Click the "Informal Writing 1" link.
  5. To attach your assignment for upload, click the "Add Attachments" button and then browse to your completed assignment.
  6. After attaching your assignment, make sure you click the "Submit" button at the bottom righthand corner of the page, otherwise I won't be able to open your assignment. (Note: Clicking the "Save as Draft" button saves your comments and attached documents to Vista but does NOT allow the instructor to access it, therefore your assignment will be considered late until you "submit" it.)

1b. Discussion Boards

If an assignment is to be seen by the entire class, such as an article or literature summary, it will be posted to the course discussion board. To upload a discussion board response, follow these directions.

  1. Click the "Discussions" link on the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the "Article Summaries" link.
  3. Click the "Create Message" button.
  4. Fill in the Subject line, preferably with the author and title of the work under discussion.
  5. Fill in the message box with your response or attach your response in a Microsoft Word 2003 (not 2007 docx) or Rich-Text Format file. (Note: Even if you fill in the message box with your response, I suggest saving your response in a word processing file first, then cutting and pasting into the message, just in case there's a problem posting your response.)

1c. Peer Response

Part 1: Exchanging Papers to Be Reviewed

After submitting your paper to TurnItIn.com for your professor, you must also submit it to your peer group (this saves trees and allows distribution even if a peer member is absent).

  1. Click the "Discussions" link on the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the "Paper # File Exchange - Group #" link (you should only be able to see one link, the one for your peer group)
  3. Click the "Create Message" button.
  4. Click "Add Attachment" to add your paper, formatted Microsoft Word 2003 (not 2007 docx) or Rich-Text Format file.
  5. When you're done writing and attaching, click the "Post" button.

Part 2: Submitting Peer Responses to Instructor

Peer Responses for 1101 and 2200 will be printed out for your peers and submitted in Vista for your instructor. After you have completed all of your peer responses, copy and paste them into one file and then upload them to Assignments > Paper # Peer Response.

  1. Click the Assignments link on the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the "Paper # Peer Response" link.
  3. To attach your assignment for upload, click the "Add Attachments" button and then browse to your completed assignment.
  4. After attaching your assignment, make sure you click the "Submit" button at the bottom righthand corner of the page, otherwise I won't be able to open your assignment. (Note: Clicking the "Save as Draft" button saves your comments and attached documents to GeorgiaVIEW but does NOT allow the instructor to access it, therefore your assignment will be considered late until you "submit" it.)

2. Accessing Graded Assignments

To view your graded assignments (electronically submitted assignments only),

  1. Click on the Assignments link on the main menu.
  2. Click the Graded tab.
  3. Clicking the dropbox of the assignment for which you wish to access your grade. I never put comments or grades in GeorgiaVIEW dialogue boxes; I only put comments and grades in word-processing files. Your graded paper will be the file with the title of your last name located in the "Submission" attachments. In this example it is the file titled "Brown.doc." Make sure your reviewing pane/tab in Microsoft Word (see below) is turned on because I use the commenting feature. Your grade appears in bold at the end of the document.

3. Reviewing Comments in Word

To view professor comments, you must use Microsoft Word 2003-2010: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/286169.
